Las Américas Airport, DR. In the heart of the country’s main air gateway, a strategic alliance began to take shape with a long-term vision. Santo Domingo Duty Free, the local business of Avolta, was selected as the exclusive distributor of Ron Rubirosa throughout the Dominican Republic, an agreement that consolidates the presence of a super-premium, authentically Dominican rum across the country’s principal travel channels.

The announcement was made at the Las Américas International Airport Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez, a terminal that symbolizes the constant flow between the island and the world. From there, the exclusivity extends not only to that flagship store, but also to other locations in ports and airports nationwide, expanding access for travelers and consumers to a product that seeks to position itself as a benchmark of high-end Dominican rum.

Avolta, formerly known as DUFRY and recognized as a global leader in travel retail, food and beverage, further strengthens its portfolio of premium spirits with this decision. The inclusion of Ron Rubirosa responds to a strategy that prioritizes local brands with a clear identity, proven quality, and a narrative rooted in origin.

Ron Rubirosa is produced entirely in the Dominican Republic. The process begins with the responsible harvesting of sugarcane and continues with careful aging in American white oak barrels from Kentucky, followed by finishing in French white oak barrels used for cognac. This technical combination seeks a sophisticated sensory profile, aligned with the standards of the super-premium segment.

The brand features two expressions that define its initial market offering. The 4-year Private Reserve and the 8-year Limited Edition represent different stages of maturation, designed for consumers who value complexity, provenance, and the artisanal work behind the product.

The official launch brought together key figures behind the alliance. Present were Leo Tizol, creator and owner of Ron Rubirosa; Alexandra Malvezin, commercial director of Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI; and Delvair Amarilla, general manager of Avolta in the Dominican Republic. Their remarks outlined the symbolic and commercial scope of the agreement.

For Leo Tizol, the brand’s arrival on Dominican soil carries both personal and professional significance. He noted that the project is the result of years of preparation and dedication, aimed at achieving a formula that allows consumers to enjoy a high-end rum produced one hundred percent in the country. In his view, Ron Rubirosa competes not only on quality, but also stands as a declaration of identity.

From Avolta’s perspective, the alliance is part of a broader strategy. Delvair Amarilla explained that the launch responds to the objective of offering travelers local, authentic, high-quality brands while promoting the Dominican Republic’s cultural richness. The shopping experience, he said, is designed to create a sense of belonging that connects passengers with the country from the very first contact.

The role of airport infrastructure was also highlighted. Alexandra Malvezin emphasized that Dominican airport terminals offer first-class infrastructure and services that meet international standards of quality and safety, and that AERODOM works closely with its partners to support initiatives that enhance the passenger experience and contribute to the development of the national aviation industry.

With this exclusivity, Santo Domingo Duty Free and Ron Rubirosa chart a shared course that blends commerce, identity, and international projection. On airport shelves, Dominican rum thus finds a strategic showcase, conceived not only to sell, but to tell a story of origin, craftsmanship, and national ambition.
