Cards, cell phone, and Cash Stolen from the Body of Former NYPD Detective Killed at Jet Set

“And now they’re using the credit cards, and stores aren’t asking for any form of ID, which makes fraud easier. There’s mismanagement. Everyone is doing whatever they want. We only gained access last night around 9 p.m. because he was a New York City police detective, and there’s an investigation underway,”

Santo Domingo, DR – The body of former New York Police Department (NYPD) detective Emmanuel Gómez, who was present at the time of the Jet Set nightclub roof collapse, was desecrated and robbed, according to a family member who reported the incident while retrieving the body from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF).

Emmanuel Gómez, recently retired from the NYPD, had been missing in the rubble of the Jet Set nightclub, according to his wife and mother of his two children, Leidy Jiménez. She traveled from New York in the early hours of Wednesday, April 9, to the site of the roof collapse, where his body was later found. Gómez was at Jet Set nightclub celebrating his retirement from the NYPD with his cousin and a friend, both of whom also died in the incident.

The former NYPD detective’s car was found in the nightclub’s parking lot, but his belongings had been stolen. “The majority of those injured or killed were stripped of their belongings. Emmanuel Gómez had his chains, rings, cash, and cell phone stolen. We found out when we called his number, but no one answered,” said a relative of Gómez when interviewed by Noticias SIN outside INACIF while arranging the release of the body on Thursday, April 10.

“And now they’re using the credit cards, and stores aren’t asking for any form of ID, which makes fraud easier. There’s mismanagement. Everyone is doing whatever they want. We only gained access last night around 9 p.m. because he was a New York City police detective, and there’s an investigation underway,” the relative emphasized.
