New York:  The Consul General of the Dominican Republic in this city, Jesús Vásquez Martínez (Chú), accompanied former Major League Baseball player and Hall of Famer David “Big Papi” Ortiz during the official launch of his new rum brand, Ron Ozama.

The event, held in New York City, is part of a promotional tour that has also taken Ortiz to Boston and Miami, where he is presenting his flagship product: a premium, 100% Dominican rum crafted with high-quality standards and deep cultural roots.
Ron Ozama is named after the iconic Ozama River in Santo Domingo and represents, according to Ortiz himself, a tribute to his heritage and Dominican values.

“This rum comes from my heart. It’s for my people, my roots, my home. Ron Ozama is a celebration of my origins and what I love about the Dominican Republic,” said the former baseball star during the presentation.

The Dominican consul celebrated the launch and expressed his support for the athlete’s new business venture.
“Happy to accompany my dear friend David Ortiz at the launch of his Ron Ozama here in New York City. Wishing you much success in this new chapter, Big Papi,” wrote Vásquez on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Ron Ozama is made from Dominican sugarcane and meets all the requirements of the “Ron Dominicano” designation of origin. The process includes distillation, fermentation, and a minimum of one year of aging in oak barrels, all carried out within the country.

Ortiz stated that with this brand, he aims to showcase the island’s authentic flavor to the world and pay tribute to the Dominican rum-making tradition.

“Ron Ozama is a drink of 100% Dominican origin, preserved and crafted through an artisanal process, connected to local culture, and seeking to reinvent the future of rum,” he said.

With this launch, Ron Ozama enters the competitive spirits market in the United States and the Dominican Republic, backed by the reputation and charisma of one of the most beloved figures in Latin American and American sports.
