New York. The Dominican Republic’s Consul General in New York, Jesús Vásquez Martínez (Chú), played a prominent role as guest of honor at the tribute event honoring Dominican mothers, organized by the Duartiano Institute of New York on May 16, 2025. The event was featured on the Consul’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Adalberto Domínguez, President of the Duartiano Institute, invited Consul Vásquez Martínez to participate in the event, highlighting the importance of keeping Juan Pablo Duarte’s legacy alive. Mother’s Day in the Dominican Republic, celebrated on May 26, served as a special tribute to Dominican mothers living abroad.

“I had the honor of participating in the Duartiano Institute NYC’s tribute to Dominican mothers. Thank you to President Adalberto Domínguez for the invitation and for keeping Duarte’s legacy alive,” said Consul Vásquez Martínez on X.

Jesús Vásquez Martínez has been recognized by several institutions in the United States for his distinguished public service career and unwavering commitment to the Dominican community abroad. During Dominican Heritage Month in February 2025, he was honored at an event organized by Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson. He received recognition for his governmental service, and Bronx Deputy President Janet Peguero and Assemblymember for District 86 Yudelka Tapia, who were also present, both highlighted his work on behalf of the Dominican diaspora in New York.

In addition to receiving awards, the Consul has launched key initiatives to uplift and recognize members of the Dominican community, including the creation of the Rafael Lantigua Award, which honors the altruism of outstanding Dominicans in New York. The award pays tribute to Dr. Rafael Antonio Lantigua Ciriaco, a Dominican physician known for his community service and academic contributions at Columbia University and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. The Consul has also spearheaded the Academic Excellence Recognition Program, aimed at high-achieving Dominican students in New York, to strengthen their cultural ties and celebrate their educational accomplishments.

These efforts underscore Consul Jesús Vásquez Martínez’s deep commitment to promoting Dominican identity and strengthening the bond between the Dominican Republic and its diaspora in the United States.
