Ansonia, CT: While searching for information about the school system in this beautiful city, I visited the city hall. I was highly impressed by its human resources department’s high quality of service. I was warmly received by the Mayor’s Administrative Assistant, Cristina Molina, a beautiful woman proud of her Latin roots and a multilingual staff finally trained to provide first-class service to the citizens.

I had the honor of meeting Mayor David Cassetti, a humble and kind official elected to this office by the Republican Party. Since his rise to the mayoralty, he has remained an influential leader, and this community has repeatedly elected him due to his excellent service and qualified staff at Ansonia City Hall.

Reviewing the campaign promises of Cassetti, 63, it is evident that he pledged to control taxes, establish a partnership with the city’s schools, and «recharge» Ansonia with an influx of new businesses and economic growth. From his beginnings to today, the mayor proudly demonstrates that he has fulfilled all his campaign goals and promises. This has earned him the complete trust of the Ansonia Republican Town Committee, with various unanimous nominations that guarantee him an equal number of consecutive electoral victories.

«In 2013, when I first ran for mayor, taxes were out of control, there were dilapidated buildings all over Main Street, there was no economic development, and there were no activities for residents,» Cassetti told the Valley Indy during an interview in 2023. «So, we assembled a team and got things done. It wasn’t just because of me; we did it together with my team and worked hard to breathe new life into Ansonia,» he affirmed.

Who is David Cassetti?

Cassetti was born and raised on South Street. In 1979, he graduated from Emmett O’Brien Technical High School. Later, he attended Gateway College, taking business classes that eventually led him to start his own construction company.

Cassetti’s personal life reflects his dedication to his role as mayor. Married to Ina for 26 years and a father of five, he is also a proud grandfather. His commitment to the city is unwavering, as he stated, ‘I feel the same passion for the mayor’s job today as I did a decade ago.’

«I am at City Hall on Main Street at 2:30 a.m. every day, setting the schedule for what we need to do for the day’s work ahead,» Cassetti said. «I enjoy transforming Ansonia. I grew up here in the 1960s and 1970s and am working hard to recreate what the city was like back then. You can’t even find a place to park downtown every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday because our restaurants and businesses are so busy. When I started, 87 percent of downtown buildings were vacant. Today, we are 93 percent occupied. All of that is thanks to my team. This team keeps me going and the city moving forward,» Cassetti affirmed.

Under Mayor Cassetti’s leadership, the city of Ansonia has seen significant achievements. These accomplishments are a source of pride for the residents and a testament to the administration’s commitment to progress and development.

Cassetti considers one of his administration’s main achievements to be preventing the manufacturing business Farrel-Pomini from leaving Ansonia in 2014. The administration secured funds to build an access road to the Fountain Lake Industrial Park for the company’s global headquarters.

Additionally, under his administration, the schools in the city of Ansonia have been fully funded, and a solid relationship has been built with the school superintendent and the Board of Education. This is considered another essential achievement of Cassetti.

He also facilitated the development of various infrastructure projects in the area, including the construction of luxury apartments downtown, specifically in the Palmer and ATP buildings, which had been unused for a prolonged period.

Recently, his administration renovated the former Farrel Corp. headquarters at 65 Main St. to convert it into a new state-of-the-art police headquarters on one floor and a senior center on another floor. They also brought the Valley’s first water pool to Nolan Field. David Cassetti personally executed and oversaw these development projects.

«These, and many more, are not the achievements of a single person,» Cassetti said. «They are the results of a team that has put progress, results, and compassion for our city ahead of petty politics,» emphasized Mayor David Cassetti.
