New York: The Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in New York, headed by the Honorable Consul Jesús Vásquez Martínez (Chú), presented this week to the Dominican Ambassador to Washington, D.C., María Isabel Castillo, the projects being promoted by the diplomatic mission in support of the Dominican diaspora in the Big Apple. These efforts focus on encouraging private investment in the country, promoting Dominican culture, supporting the community, and preventing electronic scams.

“We had a productive meeting with the Ambassador to the U.S., María Isabel Castillo. We discussed joint initiatives and presented the projects that the Consulate in NY is developing for the benefit of our community. We continue working for our people!” Consul Jesús Vásquez Martínez wrote on his X account on Wednesday, May 21.

The Consulate organizes cultural events, festivals, and various activities to celebrate Dominican identity in New York and to strengthen the community’s sense of belonging. In addition, the Consul is working on employment integration strategies, English courses, technical and professional training workshops, and scholarship programs for young people in the diaspora.

Meanwhile, the Dominican Embassy in Washington shared on its X account: “Ambassador María Isabel Castillo held a working meeting with the Consul General of @RDen_NY @chuvasquez, intending to exchange ideas, learn about the interesting projects being developed by the Consulate, and explore joint initiatives.”

One of the Consulate’s key priorities is combating real estate scams targeting the diaspora by providing information and guidance to help identify legitimate housing projects. The Consulate also facilitates services such as issuing passports, birth certificates, and document authentication to simplify the lives of Dominicans living abroad.

Additionally, it strengthens the diaspora’s civic engagement, increasing their participation in decision-making processes and exercising their right to vote in Dominican elections from abroad.

Finally, the consular mission guides housing access for Dominicans living overseas, offers assistance to those in vulnerable situations, such as victims of domestic violence or labor abuse, and actively promotes Dominican exports and the attraction of foreign investment.
