NEW YORK \u2014 The family of Darrel Anthony Rodr\u00edguez, a 26-year-old Dominican man<\/a> fatally shot Saturday at a Manhattan subway station, is calling for the suspect\u2019s arrest and demanding that the crime not go unpunished. Rodr\u00edguez was shot in the chest after an argument on the platform at Seventh Avenue and 53rd Street. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>

The young man grew up in University Heights, where relatives and friends remember him fondly. His father owns a barbershop in the neighborhood. \u201cHe was a good kid. We don\u2019t understand why they did this to him,\u201d a childhood friend said through tears.<\/p>

His twin brother, Derick Rodr\u00edguez, a service member based in Texas, described his grief to The New York Times: \u201cIt\u2019s like a black hole in my heart. He\u2019s my other half.\u201d<\/p>

The New York Police Department is searching for a man captured on surveillance video wearing a red hood and a black face covering. Police warned that he is armed and dangerous. According to authorities, the shooting happened shortly after noon and sent many riders scrambling to leave the platform.<\/p>

Rodr\u00edguez\u2019s death brings the number of homicides on New York City<\/a> public transportation<\/a> to seven in 2026, compared with four during all of 2025.
