Peravia, Dominican Republic. Authorities seized 450 packages of a substance presumed to be cocaine and arrested four Venezuelan nationals following a maritime pursuit that lasted more than 12 hours south of Punta Salinas beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The operation was carried out by agents of the National Drug Control Directorate, in coordination with the Dominican Republic Navy, the Dominican Republic Air Force, and state intelligence agencies, with support from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of the Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the official report, authorities activated a surveillance protocol after detecting a suspicious vessel heading toward Dominican coasts. The tracking led to a large-scale air, naval, and ground deployment that allowed the interception of the speedboat several nautical miles south of Punta Salinas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the pursuit, the occupants attempted to evade authorities through evasive maneuvers and by throwing multiple bales into the sea, but were unsuccessful. The vessel was ultimately neutralized and its occupants detained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities then launched a search and recovery operation in the area, managing to retrieve 15 bales from the water, which contained the 450 packages of the illicit substance, wrapped in plastic with different markings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Drug Control Directorate and the Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office said investigations are underway to dismantle the criminal network linked to this international drug trafficking attempt. The detainees are expected to be brought before the courts in the coming hours for alleged violations of Law 50-88 on drugs and controlled substances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities indicated that these criminal organizations use high-speed boats equipped with powerful engines and advanced communication technology to transport large shipments of drugs from South America into Dominican territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
