SAN DIEGO \u2014 Former U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer Jesse Clark Garcia has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for allowing vehicles carrying illegal drugs to enter the United States through his inspection lane at the Tecate Port of Entry. Federal prosecutors said Garcia abused his position as a border officer to facilitate narcotics trafficking across the U.S.-Mexico border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Investigators said Garcia provided information about when and where he would be working so vehicles carrying drugs could pass through his inspection lane without receiving the inspections normally required at the border. The investigation also involved another former CBP officer and exposed how drug-trafficking organizations attempted to exploit relationships with government employees assigned to sensitive positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Federal authorities said the scheme involved the movement of controlled substances into the United States, including cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl.
