Key Meetings Between Consul Vásquez and Dominican Political and Tourism Leaders

New York: As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between the Dominican community abroad and state institutions, the Consul General of the Dominican Republic in New York, Jesús Antonio Vásquez Martínez, held a series of important institutional meetings with prominent Dominican figures Deligne Ascención, Sigmund Freund, and Miguel Calzada León. These separate visits took place at the consular offices on June 19 and 20.

On Friday, June 20, Consul Vásquez welcomed Deligne Ascención, Minister Without Portfolio and National Secretary of Organization for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), who is currently on a tour across several U.S. cities. During the meeting, the two officials discussed the key challenges facing the Dominican diaspora and the need to enhance consular services through a more responsive and community-oriented approach.

“I received the visit of Minister Without Portfolio Deligne Ascención at the Consulate in NY. We discussed initiatives that strengthen the connection between the government and the Dominican community,” the consul shared on his official X account.

Later that same day, the consul met with Sigmund Freund, the Dominican Republic’s Minister of Public Administration, who is in New York to participate in the United Nations Open Code Week. Freund presented the country’s advancements in digital interoperability, unified citizen accounts, and inclusive public services.

During his visit to the consulate, Freund and Vásquez Martínez discussed the implementation of a Digital Readiness Assessment (DRA) and the Artificial Intelligence Landscape Assessment (AILA). These initiatives aim to promote an ethical and modern digital ecosystem aligned with the Dominican government’s institutional modernization goals.

“We welcomed Minister of Public Administration @SigmundFreund to the Consulate, where we spoke about institutional modernization and strengthening the link between the State and our diaspora. Thank you for your visit and your commitment to efficient public management,” Consul Vásquez Martínez wrote on social media.

On Thursday, June 19, the consul received Miguel Calzada León, businessman, media executive, and CEO of Caribbean Traveling Network (CTN) and Puro Turismo magazine. Calzada was recently appointed Honorary Consul of Mongolia in the Dominican Republic. Their discussion focused on the strategic role of the Dominican diaspora in boosting tourism and enhancing the country’s international image.

“Today we welcomed Mr. Miguel Calzada León, Honorary Consul of Mongolia in the DR and CEO of CTN and Puro Turismo. We discussed the role of the Dominican community abroad and the global projection of Dominican tourism,” the consul posted on X.
