Pilar Cancela Stars in Scandal and Regrettable Discrimination Spectacle in PSOE Filial-RD
Azua de Compostela, RD: A tremendous uproar and widespread displeasure have been caused by the actions of Pilar Cancela, Secretary of PSOE Exterior and member of the Federal Executive Commission of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), who was sent to organize the Assembly to elect the Executive Directorate of that party in the Dominican Republic, according to several sources who spoke to El Faro Latino newspaper under the condition of anonymity to avoid reprisals.
On Saturday, July 27, an Assembly was held in Azua de Compostela, scheduled for 11 AM, to elect the Executive Directorate of the PSOE in the Dominican Republic, where members from various regions gathered to vote on the slates presented. This event served as the stage for the execution of a controversial plan, marred by the extreme implementation of gender ideology, a topic that, according to some, is affecting the PSOE to the extent that men have lost all political rights within that organization to be replaced by “inclusive democracy.”
The complaining leaders told El Faro Latino that the PSOE-exterior team that organized the event had a preconceived plan, violating all democratic principles of a party like the PSOE, imposing and limiting the presentation to only one option, which was finally imposed by force by Cancela. The slate included Iván Armengou as president; Julia Muñoz Alegre as secretary general; Katy Guzmán as secretary of organization and communication; Rafael Díaz Cabral for training and international relations; and Angel Piña for territorial policy and electoral action. The latter was included to soften the impact, as the majority nominated him as the organization’s secretary.
When the attendees, surprised, understood that democratic principles should prevail, they presented an alternative slate composed of the people they considered to have the most outstanding leadership. Thus, they proposed the slate led by the following leaders:
Iván Armengou is president; Angel Piña is secretary general; Julia Muñoz is secretary of the organization; Socrates Rafael Olmos is secretary of territorial and electoral policy; and Rafael Diez is secretary of international relations.
“We had all agreed that this was the slate that would represent us. However, the main leader, Pilar Cancela, sent by the Federal Commission, whether by her own accord, became the most cruel dictator and despot, overwhelming with her characteristic arrogance, not allowing other options, we repeat, with an attitude far removed from the democracy and freedom of the members to choose and be chosen,” said one of the sources.
They added that the president of the Management Committee, Juan Miguel Rojo Valverde, who had acted as the head, was very nervous. Seeing that his boss would politically decapitate him if her dictatorial desires were not fulfilled, he asked the attendees and the prominent leader of that faction, Dr. Angel Piña, nominated as secretary general, to withdraw their slate.
They stated that, in an act of selflessness, conciliation, and sacrifice, Dr. Angel Piña agreed with some shame and embarrassment so that the “circus” staged by the director of PSOE-Exterior, Pilar Cancela, of appointing a person that the attendees felt did not represent them, whom they had never seen and who, wanting to be more progressive and feminist than politically correct allows, did not accept a man, discriminating against him to look good in front of the Ferraz gallery.
“Moreover, they already had prepared documents before the possible outcome, demonstrating the theater they went to perform, treating all those Dominican-Spaniards like sheep,” said another source who spoke to El Faro Latino under the condition of anonymity.
Pilar Cancela does not hide the anti-democratic political distortion affecting the PSOE by erroneously sponsoring the leadership of social justice, equality, women’s rights, and progress without subjecting themselves to democratic scrutiny, trampling on the right to choose and be chosen. On the contrary, Cancela believes that, above internal democratic procedures, the rejection of any conservative vestige within the PSOE that “denies the fight against gender” must prevail.
The complainants expressed that it is pitiful and shameful that, in a party like the PSOE, a woman decides to impose on the membership from her position of power and advantage instead of allowing the members to have the power to choose and be chosen.
“Thanks to Dr. Angel Piña, who was the person proposed for the General Secretariat by the attendees in favor of conciliation, although hurt and disappointed, the process was appeased and allowed to continue,” they concluded.
The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party is a political party founded in 1879 with a social-democratic and center-left ideology. Since June 18, 2017, it has been led by Secretary General Pedro Sánchez, proclaimed during the party’s XXXIX Congress. It is represented in various countries through PSOE Exterior, and in the Dominican Republic, over 18,000 Spanish citizens have the right to vote.
