Santo Domingo, DR: Jean Luis Rodríguez leads internal preferences for the position of General Secretary of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), according to a national survey by Grupo INVESCA.

The poll, conducted among party members, shows Rodríguez with 47% support. Gloria Reyes follows with 25%, Alfredo Pacheco with 23%, and Rafael Salazar with 5%.

Rodríguez’s lead suggests the PRM could be heading toward a leadership change in the General Secretariat. His support base positions him ahead of Pacheco, the current President of the Chamber of Deputies, who has ranked higher in other surveys among the general public. An ACD Media poll, for example, gave Pacheco 42% support among the general population and 47% among sympathizers, but his backing within the PRM is lower.

Reyes and Pacheco remain significant figures within the party, indicating multiple factions retain influence. Analysts say a Rodríguez leadership could improve internal cohesion and shape the PRM’s electoral strategy ahead of national elections, in which President Luis Abinader will not be a candidate.

Background
Rodríguez, 36, was born in Santo Domingo and comes from a politically active family. His father, Roberto Rodríguez, served as Vice Minister, Senator, and head of key public institutions.

He holds a degree in business administration from Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), with additional studies in political science and economics, and a master’s degree in business and international economic relations from Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD).

At age 15, he founded his first political movement in support of Miguel Vargas Maldonado’s presidential bid. He later became president of the PRD Youth and, after the PRM was formed in 2014, its first youth president.

Current Role
Rodríguez is Executive Director of the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM), where he has overseen port modernization projects, new terminal openings, and public–private partnerships.

He is a member of the PRM’s Executive Committee and a former Deputy General Secretary. He announced his bid for General Secretary in line with the timelines established by the Law on Political Parties.

Rodríguez has said his campaign focuses on transparency, results-oriented governance, and maintaining strong ties with the public. Party leaders describe his candidacy as inclusive and open to internal dialogue.
