Representative Danilo Burgos Criticizes Trump’s “Beautiful Bill”
“This budget slashes social rights, punishes the most vulnerable, and promotes border authoritarianism that criminalizes poverty and immigration,”

Philadelphia, PA: Pennsylvania State Representative for District 197, Danilo Burgos, issued intense criticism of the so-called “Beautiful Bill,” the budget proposal championed by President Donald Trump’s administration and recently approved by the Republican majority in Congress.
In an exclusive interview with El Faro Latino, Burgos warned that this initiative would deal a severe blow to working-class families, immigrants, students, and older adults.
“Trump claims that tariffs will generate up to $300 trillion in revenue, but even that won’t cover the projected $400 trillion deficit. In the end, it’s the consumers who will pay through higher prices on food, cars, and technology,” stated the Dominican-born legislator, one of the most influential Latino voices in state politics across the Northeast.
Social Program Cuts, Tariffs, and Border Authoritarianism
According to Burgos, the so-called “Beautiful Bill” includes significant cuts to essential programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, along with reductions in funding for public education, environmental protection, and food assistance.
“President Donald Trump and the Republicans are solely focused on protecting millionaires while punishing working families,” Burgos declared.
One of the most controversial aspects, he added, is the budgetary priority given to the border wall and the deportation apparatus, with billions allocated to private detention centers, increased patrols, and surveillance technologies. In Burgos’s view, “the border is being militarized unnecessarily, while human rights are being violated and private contractors profit.”
Impact on Public Education
Public education is one of the sectors most affected by the “Beautiful Bill,” Burgos warned. Programs at risk include: Title I, which funds schools in low-income areas; IDEA, which supports students with disabilities; and Federal assistance for school meals, transportation, and mental health services.
“Cutting these funds deepens the inequality between wealthy and poor school districts. Furthermore, the plan promotes the privatization of education through the expansion of vouchers and charter schools, diverting public resources to private institutions,” he explained.
The representative emphasized that this model erodes the public education system, limits access to technology, deteriorates school infrastructure, and endangers support programs for immigrant and special-needs students.
Doubts About Economic Feasibility
Burgos also questioned the economic foundation of the proposal, noting that tariff revenue projections are unrealisticand could trigger commercial retaliation from other countries, which would directly impact farmers, exporters, and the U.S. manufacturing sector.
“Which specific sectors will be affected by these new tariffs? How long can this financing model last? And what guarantees are there that public spending will be redistributed equitably?” he asked.
“A Dangerous Electoral Strategy”
For Danilo Burgos, the “Beautiful Bill” is nothing more than a populist campaign strategy based on false promises of fiscal balance, which in reality masks a regressive and authoritarian project.
“This budget slashes social rights, punishes the most vulnerable, and promotes border authoritarianism that criminalizes poverty and immigration,” he concluded.
With these statements, Burgos positions himself as a critical and outspoken voice in the political landscape, defending the rights of immigrant, Latino, and working-class communities against what he considers a dangerous and exclusionary agenda.
