Face to Face with Alexis Henríquez, New Dominican Consul General in Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA — El Faro Latino proudly welcomes the Honorable Alexis Henríquez, the new Dominican Consul General for Pennsylvania and Delaware, who chose El Faro Latino to deliver his first public remarks to the Dominican community across this extensive region through an exclusive interview. In doing so, he leaves behind any prior misunderstandings, presenting himself as a conciliatory public official who not only arrives making history, but who from the outset has shown concern for restoring dignity to the diplomatic delegation and the Dominican diaspora. His actions suggest he has arrived with a specific mandate from Dominican President Luis Abinader to demonstrate a government that takes seriously the laws governing diplomatic delegations in the United States.

“Dominican men and women currently living in the State of Pennsylvania and the Delaware Valley region will have the tremendous privilege and opportunity to receive VIP passport services as quickly as possible. We come with a mandate, strong recommendations, and political directives from our Dominican president, Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona, to develop a consulate capable of meeting the long-awaited demands, social aspirations, and political expectations of the diaspora in this region,” Henríquez said.

He added, “This consulate has jurisdiction over Pennsylvania and Wilmington County, Delaware. Its main office is headquartered in Philadelphia, but we are reaching several cities and counties throughout the region. We have planned Mobile Consular Operations every weekend in numerous locations. Nothing irregular takes place here because we are operating with strict order and in full compliance with the law. Nothing can be done improperly here.”

The Delaware Valley region, which includes southern New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, has formally regained consular services that were lost during the second administration of Leonel Fernández and the Dominican Liberation Party. That closure followed an El Faro Latino investigation that uncovered a series of irregularities allegedly conflicting with laws governing diplomatic delegations in the United States, as established under Geneva and Rio agreements regulating consular operations. According to that process, the U.S. Department of State ordered the permanent closure of that delegation in the “City of Brotherly Love.”

Henríquez explained that, for security reasons, the U.S. Department of State requires diplomatic delegations to be located within a designated perimeter, which is why the new offices are located at 1500 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19102.

Since the closure of the previous consulate, what functioned in its place was a Consular Extension attached to the Dominican Consulate General in New York. That office will remain temporarily open at 3528 I Street, Harrowgate Plaza Shopping Center, Suite 10, Philadelphia, PA 19134. Telephone: (215) 203-7220.

One of the first measures taken by the new Consul General, Alexis Henríquez, was relocating the diplomatic operation to 1500 John F. Kennedy Boulevard, where modern and easily accessible offices will now house not only the consulate, but also all official Dominican government agencies with a presence in the region.
