Moca, P.R.)– At a time when Puerto Rico continues to face challenges related to the stability of the electrical system and the continuity of essential services, Senator Karen M. Román Rodríguez of the Mayagüez-Aguadilla District announced the completion of a project that will guarantee more reliable drinking water service for hundreds of residents of the Cerro Gordo and Plata Baja communities in the municipality of Moca.
The initiative consisted of the installation of a backup electric generator at the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority’s (AAA) Plata II Well, essential infrastructure for the area’s drinking water supply. Thanks to this project, more than 217 families will have greater security and continuity of service even during interruptions to the electrical system.

“The safety of our communities does not depend solely on electricity; it also depends on our families having continuous access to drinking water, especially during emergencies. This project responds precisely to that need and represents a direct investment in the quality of life of our people,” stated Senator Karen Román Rodríguez.
The total investment in the project amounted to $28,653.28. The funds were contributed in equal parts by Senator Karen M. Román Rodríguez, Representative Odalys González González, and Senator Jeison Rosa Rodríguez, who allocated $9,554.00 each through resources channeled through the Puerto Rico Land Authority.
The legislator emphasized that this initiative represents an example of how collaboration among elected officials can translate into concrete solutions to address needs identified directly by communities.
“When we work together, regardless of positions or districts, we achieve real results. Here we are not talking about promises; we are talking about a completed project that protects an essential service for hundreds of Puerto Rican families,” Román Rodríguez stated.
The senator also thanked Moca Mayor Efraín “Franco” Barreto for his collaboration, as well as the support of the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority and the Land Authority in making the implementation of the project possible.
“Drinking water infrastructure is critical infrastructure. Our responsibility is to identify vulnerabilities before they become crises. We will continue promoting initiatives that strengthen our municipalities and guarantee essential services for our families,” the senator concluded.
