The Interior Ministry took the weapons of the officers involved and is awaiting forensic results to determine whether there was any wrongdoing.

A weapon was found in the vehicle and sent to Scientific Police for analysis, the outlet reported.

Montevideo Portal also reported, citing police sources, that one officer may have lost his service weapon during the pursuit. According to that account, the officer found it hours later a few blocks away while searching the area with colleagues, then notified his supervisors.

However, the Interior Ministry’s communications department told the outlet that the officers involved had not reported losing any of their weapons.

The circumstances of the pursuit and the officers’ conduct remain under investigation, pending forensic findings.
