ANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — The Dominican Republic will celebrate the historic performance of its athletes at the Central American and Caribbean Games with a major caravan through Santo Domingo on Sunday, bringing medalists and the public together following the country’s record-breaking 150-medal performance.

The caravan is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday and will travel through several major areas of the capital with Dominican medalists participating in the celebration. Cruz invited residents to join the athletes and recognize their accomplishments during the competition.

According to the minister, all entrances to the Olympic Center will be open beginning at 2:00 p.m., allowing members of the public to enter with their vehicles, gather at the complex and later join the caravan through Santo Domingo.

Cruz described the athletes as a source of national pride and called on Dominicans to turn out in large numbers to celebrate the delegation’s 150 medals, a total that established a new national record at the Central American and Caribbean Games.

The celebration will continue into the evening at Eugenio María de Hostos Park, where a concert will bring the day’s activities to a close.

The musical program will feature several prominent Dominican performers, including Toño Rosario, Fernando Villalona, Yiyo Sarante, Bulin 47 and Sergio Vargas.

The caravan and concert will serve as a public tribute to the athletes who represented the Dominican Republic during the Games and delivered the country’s most successful medal performance in the history of the regional competition.
