Washington. The U.S. Secretary of Health addressed autism and its relationship with medical treatments, stating that there is currently no conclusive evidence linking the condition to the use of specific medications, amid growing public debate over diagnoses and therapies.

In his remarks, the official said the healthcare system remains focused on scientific research and evidence based interventions, emphasizing the importance of avoiding conclusions that are not supported by rigorous clinical studies.

He also stressed that medications used in patients with autism spectrum disorder are intended to manage associated symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, and behavioral challenges, and are not designed to alter the condition itself, which he described as a complex neurodevelopmental disorder.

The Secretary added that health agencies continue to review data and promote research to better understand the causes of autism, while urging the public to rely on official sources and avoid spreading unverified information that could create confusion or alarm.

Authorities noted that managing autism requires a comprehensive approach that combines therapeutic, educational, and medical support, tailored to each individual’s needs and coordinated with healthcare professionals and families.
