Philadelphia, PA — El Faro Latino is deeply saddened to announce to the Puerto Rican, Dominican, and broader Latino community the heartbreaking passing of our beloved Trisayra Ortiz, affectionately known throughout our community as “Tracy.” She was the wife of our brother Juan Celeste, a respected leader of the Dominican community in Pennsylvania.
Trisayra passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at 2:27 a.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2019. She had fought heroically against the devastating effects of an aggressive cancer that ultimately claimed her life. She is survived by her children, Tanishka Esquilin, Robert Anthony Esquilin, and Paola Celeste.

Our media organization, through our director Esteban Cabrera, a close personal friend of Juan Celeste and the late Tracy, wishes to extend a message of comfort and solidarity to the entire Celeste-Ortiz family, reminding them that the Great Architect of the Universe will guide our Tracy to a place of eternal peace. Her kindness, compassion, and meaningful contributions during her time in this world will never be forgotten. She has departed, leaving behind a luminous path that each of us must one day walk alone.
Below, we reproduce in full a message written and published on Facebook by her husband, Juan Celeste, who was profoundly affected by Tracy’s passing:
“An eagle has just departed, searching for infinity, a place where there are no tears or pain, where only the chosen arrive.
I will remember you in every child wandering the streets, because you always delighted them with candy, which is why they called you the Lady of Candy.
In every homeless soul you offered food and hot coffee during the coldest days. In every undocumented person who had no one to help them, and you took the time to do so. In every mother who gave everything for her children.
And how could I not remember your beautiful, radiant smile that stole my heart, your tender eyes full of love, and your fierce courage to defend what you believed was yours.
I will remember you in so many things we shared together, where we became accomplices and stole a little happiness from destiny. You left without a goodbye, without a farewell, because you will always remain with me for the rest of my days.”
— Juan Celeste
