HAVANA, Cuba.— Hours have passed, the news has spread across several countries, and thousands of internet users continue searching for answers. Yet Raúl Castro’s health remains at exactly the same informational point where the alarm began: there is no medical bulletin, family statement or new image that would reveal his actual condition.
Since Diario Las Américas reported on September 1 that the former Cuban leader was reportedly seriously ill, no verifiable clinical update on his condition has emerged.

The initial report, based on a confidential source in Cuba, said Castro may have suffered a stroke and needed medical equipment to remain alive. The publication rejected rumors that he had died, but described an extremely delicate condition.
Two days later, that remains the only version containing purported medical details.
AN AMPLIFIED BUT UNCONFIRMED REPORT
Univision, Telemundo, NBC Miami and other international media outlets have followed the case. Their reports, however, refer back to the original Diario Las Américas story rather than to new hospital or family sources.
Telemundo said it had been unable to independently confirm the report. Univision also attributed the details about the stroke and life support to the anonymous source cited by the Miami newspaper.
The distinction is important. The story’s appearance in numerous media outlets demonstrates its impact, but it does not mean that different sources have confirmed the alleged diagnosis.
So far, the name of a responsible physician, the facility where Castro is reportedly hospitalized, the exact date of the alleged stroke and the prognosis offered by a clinical team remain unknown.
There has also been no verifiable information about an improvement, a deterioration or any change in the treatment he is supposedly receiving.
THE CUBAN GOVERNMENT REMAINS SILENT
Cuba’s Presidency, the Ministry of Public Health, the Communist Party and the Revolutionary Armed Forces have yet to issue a statement on the matter.
Cuba’s main state media outlets have also published no medical bulletin or new images of Castro. Their silence leaves unanswered the question dominating social media: what is the former ruler’s actual health condition?
That lack of information does not confirm the report’s contents, but it prevents the report from being dismissed through an official explanation or a recent public sign of life.
THE LAST KNOWN PUBLIC APPEARANCE
The most recent verifiable image of Raúl Castro dates to August 13, 2026. That day, he attended a ceremony in Havana marking the centennial of Fidel Castro’s birth at the Karl Marx Theater.
Wearing his traditional olive-green uniform, he was seen alongside President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Dalia Soto del Valle. Cuban and international media outlets carried the appearance.
Those images prove that Castro was alive less than three weeks before reports about his health began. They do not, however, establish what may have happened after that event.
The story’s evolution, therefore, is not being shaped by a new diagnosis but by the absence of verifiable information. There is no official confirmation of his death, but there is also no second independent source corroborating the stroke, the alleged life support or the severity attributed to his condition.
Until a medical bulletin, a family statement or a new sign of life emerges, the case will remain trapped between an unverified leak and an official silence that fuels doubt.
