United States.- The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced an expansion of a recall of frozen berries to include a lot of Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend sold at certain Walmart stores because of possible contamination with E. coli O145.
The measure is part of a recall initiated on July 3, 2026, involving IQF organic frozen blueberries from Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur SA. The company notified authorities on September 2 that the new product had been added.

The affected item is Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend, a frozen mixture of strawberries, blackberries and blueberries sold in 10-ounce, or 283-gram, bags.
Consumers can identify the product by UPC code 7874211226 and lot 6040 01-6, located on the front of the package. The best-by date is February 9, 2028.
The product was distributed at certain Walmart stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin.
The berry recall is related to the possible presence of Escherichia coli O145:H28. E. coli O145 belongs to the group of Shiga toxin-producing bacteria known as STEC.
Symptoms an infection can cause include stomach cramps, diarrhea, which may contain blood, and vomiting. Although most affected people recover in about a week, some infections can lead to serious complications.
One such complication is hemolytic uremic syndrome, known as HUS. The FDA says special attention should be paid to young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur SA, the Chilean company linked to the product, is cooperating with regulatory authorities and the companies involved in the recall process.
Anyone who has the affected product is advised not to consume it and to discard it or return it to the store where it was purchased to request a refund, while maintaining appropriate hygiene precautions.
Based on the information available, no illnesses had been reported specifically in connection with this lot of Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend. The expanded recall was adopted as a preventive measure based on information obtained during the earlier recall.
