According to a bulletin from the Valverde Prosecutor’s Office, the charges were based on Articles 295, 299 and 302 of the Dominican Penal Code, which address homicide, parricide and the applicable penalties.

The incident that led to the case occurred in May 2025. Liberato Morán, who was 48 at the time, was arrested after an incident in which his 72-year-old father suffered stab wounds that later caused his death.

A nephew of the defendant, a three-year-old boy whose identity was withheld for legal reasons, was also injured during the same incident.

The National Police reported at the time that the child was taken to the Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez Maternal and Child Hospital, where he remained under medical observation and was reported to be out of danger.

After his arrest, Liberato Morán was placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry, which began the criminal proceedings that ended with the 30-year prison conviction.

The investigation into the Valverde parricide was led by prosecutor Luis Enrique Taveras, with assistance from Santo Eduardo Espina, according to information provided by authorities.

During the litigation phase, the Public Ministry’s case was represented by prosecutor Joel Danilo Evangelista.

With its decision, the Collegiate Court established Liberato Morán’s criminal responsibility for his father’s death and imposed a 30-year prison term.
